Robert E. Harris, 83, of Sebring formally of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord Friday night June 22, 2012 at Fairway Pines in Sebring. He was born on April 18, 1929 in Salem, OH to parents Verdi and Harold Harris. Mr. Harris served his country in the US Navy submarine service for two tours in the Korean theater. A retired agent with the US Customs he moved to Lake Placid from Cooper City in 1986. Mr. Harris was past-president with Habit for Humanity, served on the board at Fairway Pines, member of the VFW, American Legion Placid Post 25, Association of Former Customs Special Agents, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church. Robert enjoyed traveling, woodworking and a good crossword puzzle and loved spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Harris is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; daughter; Deborah A. Vetter (Joe); son, Dwayne Harris; 2 grandchildren, Alyssa and Dylan Vetter; brothers, Lester, Gerald and Elliot Harris; nephew, Elliot Harris, Jr.; and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Lyn Craft. Burial will be private for the family at the Oak Hill Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at a later date at Fairway Pines.
